ALFRED, NY — For the fifth time in his career at Alfred University, sophomore Elliot Bowen (Salamanca, NY/Ellicottville) was selected for one of the Empire 8 Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards as he earned his first Player of the Week honors on Monday afternoon, as made official in an announcement from Associate Commissioner, Joe Venniro. Bowen earned four Empire 8 Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week honors last season as he was also the conference’s Rookie of the Year for the 2018-19 season.
Bowen was one point away from tying his collegiate career-high of 27 points as he scored 26 to lead the game against Rochester Institute of Technology on Tuesday evening. He was an impressive 9-of-13 from the floor and added eight free throws on his way to a double-double by pulling down 11 rebounds as well. Bowen tacked on four steals, two assists and one block while only fouling once in his 35 minutes of play.
Bowen also was named a Saxon of the Week on Tuesday along with women’s basketball’s Gillian Flint (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford).
