Seneca Media staff get FAA pilot certificates

By Seneca Media

You may notice something flying swiftly through the air with twinkling lights, although it may seem strange, it’s an awesome sight!

The Seneca Media & Communications Center (SMCC) now has 3 staff members who have obtained a Remote Pilot Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Maurice John Jr., Bradley Jimerson, and Patrick Redeye have all completed the necessary measures to officially fly drones. This certification demonstrates that pilots understand the regulations, operating requirements, and procedures for safely flying drones. The rest of SMCC is presently doing the training to take the certification.

Drones are used for aerial photography and video that have many applications including land surveying, building inspections, crop management and thermal imaging. The SMCC has been using drones to document various Seneca Nation projects, infrastructure and in association with other departments, create informational videos on varying initiatives throughout the Nation. Such projects include the Bison Farm, the Fish Hatchery and community clean-ups by Environmental Protection.

So, do not be alarmed at any events if you see a drone in the midst.
