Iroquois Genealogy Society 2019 Highlights

By Leatha Jimerson

Happy New Year Everyone!

We hope this finds you well. We are currently on break for the winter. We will start our monthly meetings on March 12, 2020. We are in the process of planning our meetings and events for the coming year.

Last month we had our holiday luncheon at the Allegany Casino Buffet which was attended by about 30 people. Everyone had a good visit. We elected our officers for the year 2020. The IGS officers are: President – Marilyn Anderson, Vice-President – Diane Beaver, Secretary – Maria Printup and Treasurer – Arthur Hill. Congratulations!

Some highlights of 2019:

• Book signing by Laurence Hauptman, ‘Coming Full Circle, The Seneca Nation of Indians 1848-1943′ and a Caroline Hewitt presentation.
• Field trip to the Rochester Museum and Science Center with Jamie Jacobs.
• Field trip to the NYS Archives in Albany, NY, hosted by Dr. James Folts and Dr. Gwen Saul.
• Field trip to Letchworth State Park with a presentation by Jare Cardinal on Mary Jemison history.

We had new field trips last year (Rochester Museum and Letchworth State Park) that we hope to do again this coming year since they were a great success.

The sale of Dr. Randy John’s books (Seneca Women and Seneca People: Places and Names, to name a few) has been a great fundraiser for us. Nya:wëh, Randy!

We are looking forward to another exciting year of family history and genealogy. Please come to one of our meetings this year. You most likely will learn new information regarding your family tree.
