Salamanca Warriors: Athletes of the Week

Nizhoni Kennedy: January 27 – February 1
By the end of last week, senior Nizhoni Kennedy helped lead the Salamanca girls basketball team into a tie for first place in the CCAA East II division. Kennedy had a team-high 16 points with eight rebounds in 53-35 win over Ellicottville on Friday, avenging the Warriors’ only league loss to date and improving to 4-1 in league play. Kennedy also had 13 points, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals in a 47-42 loss to Hinsdale.

Nizhoni Kennedy

Jarod White: February 3-9, 2020
Junior center Jarod White helped the boys basketball team go 2-0 last week, starting with a 25-point, six-rebound performance in the Warriors’ 67-47 victory at Portville. He followed up his big game with 10 points and 6 rebounds in an 84-22 win over Falconer. White has been in double-figure scoring in each of his last four games entering this week, and in nine of his last 10 overall. He leads the team in total scoring, rebounding and blocks this season.

Kylee Dowdy: February 10-15, 2020
Senior center/forward Kylee Dowdy helped the Salamanca girls basketball team clinch a CCAA East II championship as it closed out league play. Dowdy started her week by scoring eight points with six rebounds in a 32- 25 win over Cattaraugus-Little Valley. She scored a team-high 20 points with eight rebounds in a 47-36 win at North Collins. Salamanca finished 7-1 in league play to win the championship.

Lucus Brown: February 10-15, 2020
As an eighth grader, Lucus Brown has already made an impact in his first varsity season for the Salamanca boys basketball team. He’s currently averaging 10 points, four rebounds and three assists per game. Brown had nine points and eight rebounds in a 63-53 road win at Silver Creek on Monday. He followed that up with 15 points, six assists and five rebounds in a 85-25 victory over Gowanda.

Lucus Brown

Marla Warrior: February 17-22, 2020
Junior Marla Warrior scored a team-high 14 points leading the varsity girls basketball team to a 58-38 win over North Collins to end the regular season. She also had six points, three assists, two rebounds and a steal in a 46-41 loss at Gowanda. Salamanca finished the regular season at 8-11, winning eight of its final 12 and five of its final six, earning the No.4 seed to play a home playoff opener against Ellicottville.
