IGS Website and Thomas Indian School Students

By Leatha Jimerson

Since most of us are staying close to home, I figured I would share some information regarding our website, www.iroquoisgenealogysociety.org

On our website, there is a list of Thomas Indian Students who attended 1855-1955.

I went to our website and on the top of the page clicked on ‘Collection‘. A drop down list will show and then click on ‘Document Archive‘.

There are several boxes, I clicked on ‘School Records‘, scroll down and find ‘A list of student who attended Thomas Indian School 1855-1955’, click on ‘Open Record’. You will then see the list of students.

A screenshot from the IGS website of the section mentioned in this write-up that you’ll be looking for.

At the bottom of the page, you can click on the + sign to zoom in and the print will be larger. Once you find the name you are looking for, write it down exactly. You can then send an email to archref@nysed.gov (NYS archives) and ask them to send you that person’s record. Please be aware that no personal info such as health details will be sent. However, they will send you other information that will help in your genealogy research.

As you can see, there are other school records in our document archive. Check it out!

We have decided to CANCEL our June 11th monthly meeting. We are hoping we can all get together soon! In the meantime, please stay healthy and safe!
