The Seneca Training Center, Construction Technology Program, a program directed by the Training and Employment Resource Center recognized six trainees on Thursday, August 20th at a celebration held in the amphitheater area of the Onohsagwe:de’ Cultural Center on a beautiful sunny day.
The trainees were able to continue their learning in the midst of COVID-19 and followed safety guidelines issued by the Seneca Nation and CDC. In the early stage of the program, they acquired certification in Forklift Operator, Scaffolding and Flagging, instructed by Julius Wright from Local Laborers 621. At the conclusion of the program, they earned a certificate from BOCES in basic electrical, plumbing and carpentry; OSHA 10 and Blueprint Reading.
The graduation program speakers were Chief of Staff, Kerry John, Deputy Chief of Staff Eliot Jimerson, speaking about their careers in the respective carpentry and operator’s engineers trades; Chris Austin, Carpenter’s Team Leader, Mark Printup, Local 17 International Union of Operators Engineers Local 17 were invited guests offering words of encouragement and advising the group to make the most of the opportunities that come before them.
President Armstrong and Treasurer Pagels were unable to attend and sent their congratulations and best wishes. Instructor Dan Macakanja presented the trainees with certificates. A boxed lunch was provided following the ceremony.
