Williams voted PLL all-star

Zed Williams has added another honor to his resume.

On Thursday, the Premier Lacrosse League announced its all-star starters as voted on by the league’s fans and Williams was one of three Whipsnakes to make the cut.

The Whipsnakes are currently in first place with a 4-1 record, a game better than Archers, Redwoods and Atlas.

Williams, the 2020 PLL Championship Series Most Valuable Player, is currently eighth in the league in scoring with 15 points.

The 2013 Silver Creek Central School graduate has scored 13 one-point goals and one two-point goal. Williams has scored on 14 of his 40 shots for a 35% shooting percentage and 27 of his 40 shot attempts have been on goal for a 68% shot-on-goal percentage.

Williams’ Whipsnakes teammate Matt Rambo was also voted in as an all-star starter. The attacker has five one-point goals and four assists for nine points.

Whipsnakes’ Matt Dunn was also voted in by the fans. The defender has a pair of assists, five caused turnovers and has picked up eight groundballs on the season.

This season, the PLL is moving around the country each weekend.

During Week 1 at Gillette Stadium outside Boston, Williams had four one-point goals on 13 shots as Whipsnakes beat Chaos 13-7.

During Week 2 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium at Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, Williams had six one-point goals to lead Whipsnakes to a 15-14 overtime victory over Cannons.

Whipsnakes moved to 3-1 on the season with a pair of games during Week 3 at Homewood Field in Baltimore. Williams had a one-point goal in Whipsnakes’ 12-11 overtime win over Atlas. Williams then sat out Whipsnakes’ 16-6 loss to Chrome due to an injury. It was Whipsnakes’ first loss in 672 days.

Whipsnakes got back in the win column on Independence Day as Williams returned with two one-point goals and a two-point goal en route to a 15-14 victory over Archers at Shuart Stadium on Long Island.

Four Whipsnakes were also named all-star reserves. Midfielders Jake Bernhardt and Michael Ehrhardt, faceoff man Joe Nardella and goalie Kyle Bernlohr were also honored.

Whipsnakes will return to action at TCO Stadium in Minneapolis on Saturday with a 6 p.m. contest against Redwoods on NBC Sports Network.

The following week will be All-Star Weekend at PayPal Park in San Jose. The all-star game will be played at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 18 on NBC Sports Network followed by the skills competition at 9:30 p.m. (Stay tuned – we will report on this in the next issue.)

Whipsnakes will then play Saturday, July 31 against Waterdogs at Weidner Field in Colorado Springs during Week 7 action.

Week 8 will take place at Tom and Mary Casey Stadium at the University of Albany. On Friday, Aug. 13, Whipsnakes will take on Redwoods at 6 p.m. followed by a 4:45 p.m. game Sunday, Aug. 15 against Archers.

Quarterfinals will be played during Week 9 at Rio Tinto Stadium in Salt Lake City followed by semifinals Week 10 at Subaru Park in Philadelphia.

The PLL championship game will take place Sunday, Sept. 19 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. The game will air on NBC at noon.
