Submitted by Karen Karsten

Karolyn Karsten is a member of the Heron Clan. She graduated with honors from Syracuse University and received a scholarship to attend grad school at the University of Washington where she is pursuing a Masters Degree in Museology with a focus on Contemporary Indigenous Art. Prior to COVID-19 she was interning at the Seneca-Iroquois National Museum.

She was recently selected by the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) as its 2021 Emerging Curatorial Professional Intern. This particular internship is an 18 month program.
The selection process was highly competitive and the result of an intensive interview process in which Kari was the single recipient chosen from a slate of students and other young professionals from across the country. The internship is made possible through the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in conjunction with the SAM.

Kari is the daughter of Karen Karsten and Kevin Gates.
