Remember the Removal 2021- Sustaining our Culture and Traditions Pt.2

Save the Date – September 25th, 2021

This year the Remember the Removal (RTR) Committee will honor the cultural traditions of the Seneca people prior to the construction of the Kinzua Dam on September 25th, 2021.

The walk will start at 10am at the former Red House Bridge area and end at the Breed Run bridge.

Buses will be available for drop off and pick up. The bus will meet walkers at the Seneca Allegany Administration Building (SAAB) starting at 9am to be dropped off at the Red House Bridge. The bus will meet walkers at the Breed Run bridge at the end of the walk to bring them back to the SAAB for the luncheon and demonstrations.

A bus will be available for elders to follow the crowd along the walk. Hay wagons will be provided by Gakwi:yo:h Farms for all walkers if needed.

Lunch will be served at the SAAB following the walk at 12pm. Demos of various crafts and art is from 12pm-2pm, inside the Council Chambers and the outdoor patio. Vendors will be set up from 11am-2pm.

The RTR Committee will display images of community members engaged in cultural traditions; i.e.; beading, sewing, basket weaving, farming, canning, wood carving, lacrosse sticks, making snow snakes, making traditional foods, etc… We are accepting photos from the public of Seneca community members making traditional foods, labor or crafts. Photos will be displayed at the 2021 Remember the Removal event on Saturday, September 25th at the Seneca Allegany Administration Building. Please submit photos to the Seneca Media and Communications page via Facebook messenger, bring in a copy of your photo to the Seneca Media and Communications Center to scan, or mail in to Seneca Media and Communications Center at 90 Ohi:yo’ Way, Salamanca, NY 14779.

Limited vendor space for artists will be available at the Seneca Allegany Administration Building on September 25th. Please contact Fallon Snyder at 716-945-1790, extension 3114 to reserve your spot.
