A Paralympic Dream!

Submitted by Elizabeth E. John – Proud parent and Glenda M. Taylor – Proud grandparent

A question that comes up regularly for Rayven John Sample since Tokyo is, what’s next? His answer: A LOT!

Rayven was born with Arthrogryposis, an incurable joint condition that has affected the mobility of his arms. But his legs are taking him further than he could have ever imagined. Rayven is classified as a T45 runner, which states “a disabled athlete with double above or below the elbow amputations, or a similar disability.” (https://en.wikipedia.org)

Now in his Sophomore year at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA, Rayven has found his momentum. Thanks to the wonderful coaching staff there, as well as the support from Coach Dave Nelson from Rayven’s track and field days at Falconer-Cassadaga Valley, who helps with a strict regiment when home from school. Training never stops for this athlete.

In only a few short months since his debut, Rayven has shattered old personal records and has grown incredibly close to a T45 world record, which is 57.79 seconds in the 400m. His focus this year is to break world records and prepare for Paris 2024. His goal for the future: Besides the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, his sights are set on one day retiring as the greatest men’s T45 athlete! We must say – he is well on his way!

Elizabeth, Rayven’s sister Calli Jimerson, Glenda and the entire Family are all SUPER proud of him.

Go Bucknell!! Go Rayven!! Ja:goh!!
