Red-Tailed Hawk Release

SNI Conservation Releases Red-Tailed Hawk After Rehabilitation

As a follow up to the wildly popular America Bald Eagle release, we bring you another update on the work SNI Conservation Officer Duane Carry-Moccasin continues to carry out, with the update of the release of a red-tailed hawk onto territory after rehabilitation.

On, December 6th of 2021, Seneca Nation Conservation (Cattaraugus Territory) received a call for an injured red-tailed hawk on the side of Seneca Road near Plank Road bridge. Conservation Officers Chris Brooks and Jeremy Keyes responded and were able to locate and capture the hawk. It was then sent to Messinger Woods Wildlife Care and Education Center.

Numerous tests, x-rays, and MRI’s were conducted on the hawk to determine the reason for the hawk not flying. All tests came back negative and after approximately three months of rehabilitation, the hawk began flying and eating normally and was ready to be released.
