Marvin “Joe” Curry Veterans Powwow Returns

After two years, it was finally time to sing and dance.

Councillor Tina Abrams pictured with Head Male Dancer Chris Thomas.

On July 16 and 17, the Marvin “Joe” Curry Veterans Powwow returned to Allegany, bringing friends and neighbors from near and far. Following two years of cancellations because of the pandemic, it was wonderful to see everyone, to watch the dancers, to hear the songs, and to share our culture and traditions once again.

This celebration would not have happened without the tireless and dedication of so many individuals and organizations. Our Powwow Committee and staff did an outstanding job (pictured above) of planning and coordinating. Countless volunteers gave their time throughout the weekend. Everyone who competed gave us an incredible show and moved us with their spirited performances. The food and crafts vendors added to the wonderful environment. Our sponsors gave their support to make the event possible.

And, of course, everyone who came out to watch, share and enjoy the powwow alongside us made the weekend one that we will remember for years to come.

To everyone who participated in the 2022 Marvin “Joe” Curry Veterans Powwow, we say “Nya:weh.” Thank you for an outstanding weekend of memories, friendship, community and tradition.

We can’t wait to welcome you back in 2023!
