Seneca Nation Seeks Fair New Gaming Compact with New York State

On Wednesday, August 17th the Seneca Nation and its leaders held a press conference reflecting on the course of the last 20 years since the original gaming compact was signed by former Seneca Nation President Cyrus Schindler and Governor George Pataki on August 18, 2002.

The economic impact of the Nations gaming operations can be seen across WNY. It exceeds $1.7 billion with more than 3,000 employees at three different locations including the Seneca Niagara Casino, Seneca Allegany Casino, and Buffalo Creek.

Seneca Gaming Corporation President and CEO Kevin Nephew discussed the struggle of turning an aging convention center in Niagara Falls into a world class destination. He highlighted that the successful journey of the SGC would not be possible without Seneca Gaming Corp. Board of Directors and team members, elected officials of the Nation, trusted business partners, and neighbors from WNY.

President Pagels noted that the gaming corporation is the primary source of our government’s funding for critical services such as healthcare, education, social services, family welfare programs, housing, infrastructure, and recreation.

The Seneca Nation seeks a fair new gaming compact to expand and strengthen the Nations programs and services to reach more Senecas, providing tools and resources to reach a better quality of life and future for our people and culture.
