Attention: Low Income Seneca Nation Homeowners

The Seneca Nation Community Planning and Development Department was awarded a Tribal Healthy Homes Grant from HUD (U.S. Office of Housing and Urban Development) of $1.6 million dollars over 42 months (Sept. 2022 – October 2025). HUD recognizes that correcting unhealthy conditions in the home can help to bring about better health for all who live there. The Seneca Nation Healthy Homes Program was made to address different environmental health and safety concerns including: mold, lead, allergens, carbon monoxide, home safety, radon and 29 other household hazards identified in the Healthy Homes Rating System. For a complete list see attached. Our goal is to help those whose health has been affected by these conditions. This grant does NOT cover weatherization, home rehabilitation or cosmetic repairs.

Enrolled Seneca individuals and families may apply to the Healthy Homes Program and eligibility is based on income guidelines. Participation in the Healthy Homes Grant Program is open to enrolled Seneca members living on the Cattaraugus, Allegany, or Oil Spring Territories who own their own homes, who rent either a house or an apartment in a multi-family dwelling with stipulations. It is also open to low income enrolled Seneca members living in owner-occupied homes in Niagara, Erie, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, and Allegheny Counties.

Applications are reviewed and inspections are preformed to prioritize by health issues and immediate need. Once the application is reviewed inspection appointments will be set up to inspect/test the home and determine the severity of the issues and how they can/should be addressed. Keep in mind there is a $10,000 threshold on each home so work will be based on those threshold amounts.

Starting October 3, 2022, applications can be picked up in the Cattaraugus or Allegany Community Planning and Development Departments.
