Treasurer

From The Desk of The Treasurer

Greetings,

I’m sure hoping we will get a little warm snap and enjoy a few days of “Second Summer” before the snow really starts flying! If you haven’t been busy with all the fall activities so far – no worries; there are plenty more events happening in our communities in the coming weeks.

The President’s Office and the Treasurer’s Office have joined forces to provide a community-building event: “Elder & Youth Wild Game and Traditional Foods Dinner and Social. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, November 15th, 2022, from 5:30pm-7:30pm, at the Steamburg Community Center. Some items on the menu will include deer and bison meat, fried fish, corn soup, fry bread, pie and more. All of the food will be prepared by members of our community. The social will begin at 6:30pm and is being offered by the Allegany Men Singers, Hilton Johnny-John and Jocelyn Jones. We are hoping by offering events like this, our youth and our elders will have an opportunity to spend time together and share some stories or tidbits of how things were “back in the day” when this was our way of life. So, get out your moccs, bring your elders and enjoy a nice dinner and some ace music! Please see the back page for the official notice.

As this will be my last official message in my role as the Seneca Nation Treasurer, I’d like to give my thanks and sincere appreciation to our community members for trusting me to oversee our fiscal affairs for the 2020-2022 administration. Although we were met with several difficult challenges in the past two years, I feel strongly that we will have a full recovery from the extraordinary position we were in when COVID-19 invaded our tribal economy. True, we are continuing to be a bit cautious and continue to operate more on the lean side. With the safeguards which became necessary to establish, services to our membership were not interrupted; and the results have been very positive. Also, we have successfully finalized another years’ budget process and are looking forward to engaging some economic development projects which have been simmering for a while. We’ve all done our best under unparalleled circumstances and the people’s work continues to improve on a daily basis! It has truly been my privilege to serve as your Treasurer for the 2020-2022 Administration. Nya:weh!

Respectfully,
Rickey L. Armstrong, Sr.
