December 8, 2023 | Silver Creek Central School District FB

Seneca IV students worked on beading ornaments to spread holiday cheer to the elderly at the Cattaraugus Territory Office of the Aging on the Seneca Nation. Ms. Tahamont showed the students her own examples, and they chose their designs, including trees, ornaments, gingerbread men, and turtles. The class headed out to sing “Jingle Bells” in Seneca and present their hand-beaded ornaments to the Elders on December 18!

“Nya:wëh to the Silver Creek Seneca Language High School Class for coming to the Wini Kettle Sr. Center on Monday, December 18, 2023 and hanging out for some Bingo, LCR, shuffleboard, pool, some laughing, singing and dancing, and a delicious lunch too! The Elders loved the visit and appreciate the hand made gifts. Come back soon!” ~ Cattaraugus AOA

December 8, 2023 | Repost from The Park School of Buffalo FB

Park was honored to welcome Carson Waterman and Leeora White, members of the Seneca Nation, to our recent Upper School community gathering as part of the school’s celebration of Native American Heritage Month. Students were treated to a telling of the Haudenosaunee Creation Story, saw a live drawing of a ceremonial headdress, and heard our visitors reflect on the importance of art in our lives. We are deeply grateful to both for their time and sharing their stories!

The Park School of Buffalo is WNY’s only co-ed, PreK – Grade 12 and Montessori school. Park students are academically and socially prepared problem solvers equipped with confidence, critical thinking skills, and a desire to make the world a better place.

On November 30th, the students at Olean Intermediate Middle School closed out Native American Heritage Month with a performance by the Old Bridge Singers and Dancers. The members are of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, most coming from Salamanca. They taught students about their social dances, regalia, and heritage. Staff members joined in on several social dances with the members and had a lot of fun!

On December 5, 2023, at around 1:30pm, my wife was walking our dog down Broad Street, near Kent Boulevard in Salamanca when three dogs came charging out of nowhere and started attacking our dog. In the process of trying to ward off these dogs, my wife tried her best to get them off our dog, an off-duty Seneca Nation Marshal (Ashlee Abrams) and two Seneca Nation DPW workers (Ed Stuve and Matt Lingenfelter) attempted and succeeded in stopping these dogs from harming or killing our dog. We have the utmost respect and thankfulness for these Seneca Nation workers for their part in saving our dogs life. We will be deeply indebted to them for their kind help in saving our dog.

Thank you for being there! Nya:wëh.
