The Iroquois Genealogy Society had a good year and the time has flown by again! Below is a recap of our year:

Special Speaker: Alan Gutchess, Director Fort Pitt Museum, Subject: Logan’s War or the Yellow Creek Massacre (Pittsburg PA area)

Family Presentations: Theresa Lutitia Halftown (Teresa VanAernam), Wilbur Parker and the infamous Lila Jimerson (Nancy Jemison).

Elder Interviews: A first for us! Participants, Barbara John, Carolyn Brant and Tyler Heron

Resource Information: How to create a family tree plus resources (Leatha Jimerson)

Outreach: Information table at Family History Day at the Buffalo & Erie County Library, AOA Elder Resource Fair and SNI Fall Festival.

Fundraising: Provided SNI Council with lunch.

Our presentations, events etc. could not be possible without the dedication and hard work of people who prepare for the gatherings and the people who attend. We appreciate you all!

The Iroquois Genealogy Society is coming into our 10th year!! It’s hard to believe! We feel it’s very important to learn about your family history by creating a family tree, researching your relatives and finding new ones through records available on our website and attending our monthly meetings. Our families’ accomplishments, hardships and love can bring a feeling of pride, belonging and appreciation for them. Never forget your ancestors!

At our Holiday luncheon, we elected the 2025 IGS Officers as follows: President-Leatha Jimerson, VP/Secretary-Marilyn Anderson, Treasurer-Teresa VanAernum

Our first meeting for 2025 will be on Thursday, March 13th. Anyone interested and willing to present their family history, please contact one of the officers. We would be so happy to hear your story!

The Bandits organization shared “We are grateful for the opportunity to live, work and play lacrosse in this territory. Throughout tonight’s game, we will honor the rich history of the Indigenous People in Western New York.”

Some of the highlight’s included:

• The Buffalo Bandits were proud to welcome President of the Seneca Nation, J.C. Seneca for attending the game for the ceremonial faceoff!
• The Buffalo Bandits send a special thank you to Jacky Snyder for making our amazing belts for Native American Heritage Night! Jacky shared “For the past 3 years I’ve enjoyed being the official bead worker of the Buffalo Bandits lol First year – medallions. Second year – ties and bow ties. This year – belts! And another little something-something for their next home game, as all month they recognize NAHM”
• Attendees had a chance to win a one-of-a-kind beaded Bandits cowboy hat, designed by native artist Aryien Stevens (Joä’nö’). She shared “Always grateful for these opportunities, nya:wëh Mimi, SGC & the Buffalo Bandits for including me! It was a fun night – I hope you had a chance to enter!”
• Congratulations to Jillian Rea and Mavi Montour, the winners of this year’s Native American Heritage Scholarships!
• The Marty Jimerson Dance Group entertained fans for Native American Heritage Night, from the Seneca Nation, Cattaraugus Territory as they performed their traditional songs and dances! Marty shared “Awesome time at the Bandits game sharing some songs & dances for Native American Heritage Night. Great hosts, nya:wëh to the dancers & to Brad Jimerson for the amazing pics!”
• Post game celebrations were held at Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino, visitors had the chance to meet the team….& Much More!

The Battle at the Barn lacrosse tournament is one of the most prestigious and oldest box events in the USA. The tournament brings together teams from across the U.S. and Canada to test their skills in box lacrosse. This year’s event was held January 4th-5th, 2025 at The Plex North in Fort Wayne, IN.

Ja:göh to all of the Jr. Bandits teams that participated:

Gold Medal win in overtime! Grade 11/12 Jr. Bandits Open Division team went undefeated (5-0) in the Battle at the Barn this weekend!

Grade 11/12 Elite Division took home the bronze! This team battled through adversity and injury to finish on a winning note. Bronze Medal game final: Jr. Bandits – 10, Team Minnesota – 3

Champions! Grade 9/10 Jr. Bandits Elite won when it mattered, taking down Headlines Navy 5-4 to win the Battle at the Barn. Congrats to Ryan Rizzo, Oliver Pierce, and Liam Smyers who were named MVPs.
