This new, colorful logo, created by Seneca artist Derise Waterman, represents Agwadeyësta’ Do:gë:h’s organizational brand.

The hills depicted in the background represent the Seneca people. In our language we refer to ourselves as ‘People of the Great Hills.’

The young ones sitting with an Elder will be our starting point because their minds are at the best stage for language learning.

The Elder advises the youth, “Learning is lifelong, it is never-ending” and she is doing her part by teaching others with the hope that one day they will do the same.

The group sitting in a circle represents our vision that they will become like family, help each other learn, and that one day, they will use our language as their first.

The fire represents our commitment as a people to protect it and keep it burning bright for the children and their children; the fire can never go out.

The Circle that encompasses the entire logo represents all that we are as a people and is a reminder to live our lives using our language and perpetuating our life ways.

Barry/Deanna Snyder, Sr. Chairman’s Scholarship:
$10,000 awarded over two years. Successful applicant must maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA, with a focus on experience in health leadership.

Geraldine Memmo Scholarship:
$5,000 awarded annually – focus on leadership in health with knowledge of the rich and diverse history of the Seneca people.

Ruth Goode Scholarship:
$5,000 awarded annually – focus on a degree in nursing and demonstrates qualities that Ruth Goode embodied throughout her illustrious career.

SALAMANCA, N.Y. (WIVB)—With school coming to an end, we can reflect now on how this year and last year challenged kids in unprecedented ways.

From virtual learning to canceled events, it’s easy to understand why a lot of children might have felt down.

But one southern tier 4th grader rose to the challenge, and that stood out to her teacher Chelsea Rath.

Rath says student Ellouise Brown stepped up for her class, her community, and members of the Seneca Nation.
Ellouise, who goes by Weezy both at home and in school, spent the past year making sure her teachers felt appreciated, helping other students with their work, and volunteering in her community. She also spent a lot of time writing cards for the Seneca elders, who were isolated throughout the worst of the pandemic.

“It was always something for other people. Whether she was making cards for people in the Elderly home, or she was cleaning up her community, it just amazed be that a fourth grader was taking time to do this,” Rath said.

Ellouise says her selflessness is simple. She just likes seeing people happy. Rath says she’s one proud teacher!
