Join students from this year’s Summer Y.E.S. Program under the direction of the Tribal Employment Resource Center (TERC) for their upcoming fundraisers. On Thursday, July 11th, the Cattaraugus Summer YES program will be holding a CAR WASH & FOOD SALE at the CIRVFD parking lot from 9am-2pm and on Friday, July 19th, the Allegany Summer YES program is also hosting a CAR WASH & FOOD SALE at the Seneca Nation Library from 9am-3pm.

Get your car washed, grab a bite to eat and check out the raffles!

The Six Nations Agricultural Society is asking you to consider being a sponsor at our 6th Annual Golf Fundraiser to benefit the New York State Fair Indian Village. This event will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at the Seneca Hickory Stick Golf Club in Lewiston, NY. Contributions will assist with provisions needed to operate during the fair, conservation in village, and the preservation of our most prominent exhibit: the 16th century replica bark longhouse which in desperate need of restoration.

Established in 1924 with the purpose of promoting agriculture to Haudenosaunee territories in NY State, the society began operating the Indian Village at the NY State Fair in 1928. President Roosevelt declared the Indian Village land at the New York State fairgrounds as reservation land, designating the Onondaga Nation as custodian through an Executive Order in 1932.

Every year, for two weeks during the NY State Fair, representatives from Tonawanda, Cattaraugus, Allegany, Akwesasne Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Tuscarora, and Cayuga educate the public on Iroquois culture. Native craftspeople from these reservations demonstrate and sell hand-made crafts. We maintain a restaurant with native foods, the 16th century replica bark longhouse, an archery and lacrosse shoot booth, and our most popular attraction – the Iroquois dance show performed 3 times daily on the Turtle Mound. Visitors from New York State and around the world attend the New York State Fair where the Indian Village is a main attraction.

June is coming to an end and the memories of sweet, juicy strawberries picked fresh in the field will carry us through until next year. June also was filled with celebrations: Father’s Day, Kindergarten and high school graduations. Father’s Day celebrates the lives of fathers who are here with us and those who have passed on. It is also a time for us to remember that we have a heavenly Father who loves all of us. Congratulations and prayers to the graduates and their families for continued success.

Be careful driving on our roads as our children are enjoying their summer break. There will be many days of swimming, summer recreation programs and family gatherings. Some people acknowledge the 4th of July by setting off fireworks. Always exercise caution and safety during these activities.

Remember that the Seneca Hymn Singers’ rehearsal is on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. They are recruiting new members and invite all who are interested in joining this interdenominational group to join them. Not only will you learn songs in Seneca, but you will enjoy the fellowship that the singers experience. You do not have to be Seneca to become part of the group.

In August we will be having our annual summer picnic with the Versailles and Gowanda Methodist churches. Watch the newsletter for the date and details.

Our church service is held every Sunday morning at 9am, followed by a coffee hour. Come and join us for word and song. Methodism is based on the philosophy of John Wesley who said, “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” Good words to live by – Peace.
