The Seneca Nation’s Council has authorized National Grid (NGRID) and Verizon (VZ) to complete “make-ready” construction and tree clearing throughout the Cattaraugus Territory. This construction is required to initiate the broadband, high-speed Internet project. Construction will begin in March / April 2021 and it will take a number of months to complete.

Broadband will bring high-speed Internet and digital voice services to all Cattaraugus residents. In order to accomplish this goal, we must contract with NGRID and VZ to complete the required construction. Seneca Nation’s broadband network construction will begin once these two entities have completed their respective work.

You will see NGRID and Verizon trucks on territory. We ask the community to be patient with the construction on territory since this is necessary to bring high-speed internet to the entire Cattaraugus community.
We will provide updates throughout the project.

You are such an amazing human being and have the biggest heart. He had an early Birthday trip to Cabela’s, he wanted a new pole and reel and upgraded tackle for this season. When most kids are in front of a screen, we couldn’t be more proud of you, spending your winter out on the ice skating and now checking out all your favorite fishing spots. We hope this finds everyone well and healthy. We are keeping those that have lost loved ones in our thoughts and send comfort and strength to them.

Our first Zoom meeting held on March 11, 2021 was a success and a learning experience. There were about 14 people who attended and about 10 people who did Facebook Live. In the Zoom meeting there was a person from NYC and one from the Onondaga Reservation. This was great to see and they enjoyed the presentation. Wallace Ward did an overview of our website: www.iroquoisgenealogysociety.org and Leatha Jimerson did a presentation on Genealogy 101.

The best part of the online sessions is that we can reach a more wide range audience and the presentation is recorded. It can be accessed on Facebook after the presentation. However, we do miss everyone at our in-person meetings because we get to visit and have some great food! We are hoping as time goes on that we will definitely get back to this.

We have a new feature on the website named ‘Ask the Researcher’. This is a way for people to submit genealogy questions. When submitting a question, please be specific, eg. Provide a name, birth date or a year and location of where the person was born, died or lived. We will point you in the right direction. We have some great researchers amongst us that will be helping to answer your questions.

Our next IGS Monthly Meeting will be held on April 8, 2021 at 6:30 pm via zoom. The meeting will cover another area of our website – MAP GALLERY! There are many old maps on our website which are very interesting.

Please find the event announcement with directions on our webpage by going to the menu and choosing ZOOM MEETING. A link for the meeting will be provided. We will be on Facebook Live (Iroquois Genealogy Society) also. In this format, you can watch and listen to the meeting with no interaction. However, we will have a person monitoring the meeting and you can post a question that will be relayed to us.

November 22, 2020 was the last time that Four Corners held church services. COVID affected some members of our congregation and of our sister church in Versailles and so we suspended services. We didn’t get to celebrate Christmas and part of the Lenten season. However, we will be resuming services in time to celebrate Easter. It has been a time of prayers for our members and those in our community who have experienced illness and death. It is now a time to look forward to Easter, spring, and healing.

The Jelly Bean Prayer

Red is for the blood He gave.
Green is for the grass He made.
Yellow is for the sun so bright.
Orange is for the edge of night.
Blue is for the sins we made.
White is for the grace He gave.
Purple is for His hour of sorrow.
Pink is for our new tomorrow.
A bag full of jellybeans colorful and sweet,
Is a prayer, is a promise, is a special treat.

It is with great sadness that we say farewell to our pastor, Dave Rood. He has begun a new chapter in his ministry, and we begin a new chapter in the life of our church. Our new pastor is Holly Britain and we welcome her to our church.

The Seneca Hymn Singers continue to serve the community. As we begin to resume our church life we will update you on their rehearsals, etc. We invite you and your family to join us for Sunday services at 9 a.m. with coffee time at 8:30 a.m. Look for updates on our services in upcoming issues of the newsletter.
