Constitution Reform Update:

The Constitution Reform Committee (CRC) has concluded their listening sessions. The CRC is in the process of compiling the information and will make it available to the public upon completion. The comment period has also been extended to January 31, 2020. Written comments can be sent to Millicent.Proud@sni.org or mail to PO Box 231 Salamanca, NY 14779.

What is constitution reform? The broad term “constitutional reform” is usually reserved for proposed amendments that would alter in some fundamental way the structure of the government established by the nation’s charter—that is, the organization of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches, the distribution of power among them, and their interrelationships. The Seneca Nation Constitution has been amended several times since 1848. The last revision made was 26 years ago. The Constitution Reform Committee would like to know “Does our Constitution need to be changed?”
