A message from President Matthew B. Pagels

Nya:wëh sgë:nö’,

Hope all are well. I hope everyone had a Happy Easter with family. As more and more members become vaccinated we are able to spend more time with each other. Please continue to be vigilant in Covid-19 protocols so we can keep our numbers down. Although we can begin to see light at the end of the tunnel we cannot afford to lose our loved ones to this terrible disease. Vaccine is key to normalcy.

The Seneca Nation Health System is now making appointments for any enrolled member over 18. It is always the right time to get vaccinated. For current patients please contact LRJHC at 716-945-5894 to Terry Cowles or to CIRHC at 716-532-5582 to Kim Bradley for appointments. If you are not a current patient please call the patient benefits department for more information.

Sandy Tyler gets vaccinated

The Health System is planning to offer a Pfizer vaccination clinic during the week of April 19. This may be given to 16 and 17 year-olds with parent/legal guardian consent and present during the vaccination. Adults are also eligible for this vaccine and should call for an appointment.

We have joined in collaboration with Cattaraugus County to help with a vaccination clinic at the Seneca Allegany casino. Although we have separate governments, our communities and people are connected and share the same living environments. Keeping everyone safe is our priority. By keeping our neighbors safe it helps keep our residents safe as well. This partnership shows we are team players in fighting the pandemic. There are no boundaries in this war.

Appointment clinics are also available around NYS at the following website and hotline at am-i-eligible.covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/ or call 1-833-697-4829. Other vaccine locations include local Rite Aid, CVS, Walgreen’s, Wegmans and Tops facilities. Lastly the University of Buffalo has created a website for Western NY citizens at VaccineHound.org. There are plenty of opportunities and resources available to get vaccinated and to protect our communities.

In other updates the Climate Change Task Force is looking for you to participate in the climate change survey. They would like to use the information to create a Seneca Nation Adaptation Plan to outline strategies and approaches in addressing potential threats to climate change. Climate change adaptation is about reducing the risk of how climate change impacts people and our resources. Although climate change is already occurring we hope to limit the negative impact of the change and prepare to address our vulnerabilities and plan accordingly. Please take time to complete this short survey found at our website sni.org. Help keep our mother earth in better condition for the next generations. You may win a prize for your participation.

The Transportation Department would like to hear from the community regarding the long-range transportation plan. This includes not only the transit system, but the roadways, trails, sidewalks and much more. For information on meeting dates and a draft of the plan can be found at our website at sni.org.

I hope everyone gets to enjoy the warmer weather, by getting out doors with your favorite golf… I mean sport. 🙂

Stay safe, stay strong. Dah ne’hoh dih ae’,
Matt
