From The Desk Of The Treasurer

Greetings,

I hope all the fathers in our communities enjoyed their Father’s Day weekend; and if you live near the Allegany Territory, were able to partake in the H.E.R.O. drive-thru event at the ACC, last Friday. That committee produces such great events all year long. I understand golf tournaments are in full swing, right now. As for lacrosse, we have a good number of Senecas playing for the Lake Shore Eagles Varsity Boys Lacrosse team, which is overall undefeated at 11-0. As for Salamanca Warriors Varsity Boys Lacrosse, they are currently number one in their league, with an 8-1 standing; and the Salamanca Varsity Girls Lacrosse team has a couple of more games yet to play, but they also have done very well. Overall, lacrosse season is coming to an end and the playoffs will be starting soon. Keep up the good work everyone!

Also, for a little update on our baseball/softball fields: the infield of the Cattaraugus ball field, situated behind the fire hall, has been freshly graded with Dura Edge, which helps to improve drainage and is well maintained by Chuck Steven’s crew at the Cattaraugus DPW. We have about four teams that are currently utilizing that field: Majors/Minors Baseball and Majors/Minors Softball. There is also a T-Ball Division which plays on the makeshift field behind the Iroquois Legion Post 1587. Our Allegany ballfield, situated behind the ACC, is completed. Although it still needs some fencing and drainage work done to it; along with some seeding and mulching, it can be used.

Well, it has finally happened. New York State, which had possibly the highest rates of COVID-19 cases in the entire world, now has one of the lowest positivity rates in the U.S. As an incentive to get vaccinated, the State of New York is offering an opportunity to win a four-year college scholarship. If you are between the ages of 12-17, and get vaccinated, you are eligible to register to win a four-year full-ride scholarship (includes tuition, fees, room-and-board, and expenses) to any New York State public college or university. If interested, complete the form on-line, at: https://forms.ny.gov/s3/Get-A-Shot-To-Make-Your-Future-Registration. The last drawing to win a scholarship will be June 29th, so all entries must be received by June 28th. In addition, they have officially announced the New York State fair will be opened at 100% capacity this year, with minimal restrictions. The Erie County and Cattaraugus County Fairs will also be open this year. And, if you haven’t already heard, our own Fall Festival, held on the Cattaraugus Territory, will be taking place this year.

I know this pandemic has been very difficult on all of us, but we have a new normal to anticipate and we’re almost there. Again, if you have not yet received your COVID-19 vaccinations, please consider getting them – to help keep everyone in our communities as safe as possible.

Respectfully,
Rickey L. Armstrong, Sr.
