Barbara Frankiewicz presented the ACEC New York Silver Award for the Pennsy Trail to the Seneca Nation of Indians Department of Transportation.

Nussbaumer & Clarke, Inc. (Nussbaumer) provided professional engineering services for the design of the Pennsy Trail. The Pennsy Trail was developed on the abandoned rail bed of what last functioned as the Pennsylvania Railroad.

This project required removing steep inclines and providing a stable surface that is safe for all users and making a majority of the trail ADA-compliant; implementing consistent roadway crossings; and incorporating lighting, emergency call-boxes, security cameras and electric wheelchair charging stations. The Pennsy Trail provides an east-to-west link across the City of Salamanca that can be utilized by all.

Thanks to the Seneca Nation Department of Transportation, Salamanca Board of Public Utilities and the Seneca Nation Workforce Training Program and the talented staff of Nussbaumer.

The Pennsy Trail was opened for use in the Fall of 2019.
