Warriors earn four spots on C South first-team all-stars

After a second-place regular season finish in the Section 6 Class C South division, the Salamanca football team had four members earn a spot on the C South first-team all-star league list.

Junior running back Jesse Stahlman and senior offensive lineman Tre Turner made the C South first-team offense, while senior defensive lineman Kody Shinners and senior defensive back Cole Hedlund made the first-team defense. Stahlman led the Warriors’ rushing attack with 1,044 yards (10 touchdowns), 108 receiving yards and one touchdown pass. Turner was a four-year starter and a key leader as a captain this year. Shinners was a disruptive force on the line, making 59 tackles with eight sacks. Hedlund was the team’s leading receiver (375 yards, six touchdowns) and had multiple interceptions at cornerback.

Also for the Warriors, junior defensive lineman Jaxon Tarr, senior linebacker Shawn Pierce and senior defensive back Harley Hoag made the second-team defense. Senior Eion Quigley and junior Zaron Tucker were honorable mentions.

Kody Shinners

The league’s top honors went to Fredonia seniors Nick Whitfield and Matt Lotter and Southwestern senior Aidan Kennedy. Whitfield won the League Player of the Year, tallying 1,797 passing yards (16 touchdowns), 720 rushing yards (13 touchdowns) along with 32 tackles, two sacks and four interceptions. Kennedy won Offensive Player of the Year after marking 1,717 passing yards (17 touchdowns) and 606 rushing yards (14 touchdowns). Lotter was the Defensive Player of the Year with 140 total tackles (four for loss), three sacks, one interception and three forced fumbles.

Gowanda won the team sportsmanship award and the Panthers’ Ben Krakewski won the individual league sportsmanship award.
