Seneca Leadership meets with NYS Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation at Ganondagan

After more than 35 years, G. Peter Jemison has retired as Ganondagan State Historic Site Manager. Ja:göh Pete on your long and successful career!

Leadership from the Seneca Nation, the Tonawanda Seneca Nation, and the New York Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation met to discuss the significance of Ganondagan and paving a way for the future.

Councillor Tina Abrams read a message on behalf of President Pagels on the cultural value of Ganondagan and presented him with a gift for his years of dedication and preservation of our culture.

Councillors Elliot Jimerson, Arlene Bova, and Lisa Maybee also gave remarks and touched on the family atmosphere at Ganondagan.

NYS Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commissioner Erik Kulleseid spoke about carrying on a respective relationship with both nations in effort to tell our narrative and have our own voice as Seneca people and culture bearers.

Michael Galban, new Site Manager, spoke briefly about exciting new projects in the works. Galban, along with Cultural Liason Ansley Jemison, intend to carry on and build off Jemison’s 35+ years of work.
