Rte. 438 and Versailles Plank Road, Cattaraugus Territory | Sunday worship service at 9am
Submitted by Marilyn Anderson
We are preparing for Easter which is the most joyous and celebrated Christian season which celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We have observed Ash Wednesday and enjoyed our ReLENTless family activity day. There are several significant observations leading up to Easter that Four Corners UMC, Versailles UMC and the Gowanda UMC will be observing through joint services.
- Palm Sunday Service – Sunday, April 10– 9 a.m. –at Four Corners UMC. Palm Sunday begins the last week of Lent and commemorates the spreading of palm leaves and cloaks during Jesus’ triumphant entrance into Jerusalem.
- Maundy Thursday Service – Thursday, April 14, the time and location will be announced at the Sunday service. Maundy Thursday is observed on the day before Good Friday. Maundy Thursday commemorates Jesus last meal with his disciples and the first communion ritual. The word Maundy comes from the Latin (man datum) which means command. The command Jesus gave to His disciples was to love one another.
- Good Friday Service – Friday, April 15, the time and location will be announced at the Sunday service. Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus on the cross at Calvary.
- Easter Sunrise Service and Breakfast – Sunday, April 17– 9 a.m. – Four Corners UMC. We will enjoy breakfast after the service. Everyone is invited to join us.
Some of you can remember Easter services at Four Corners when you were younger. The church was filled with flowers, especially lilies that are symbols of Christ’s resurrection. Sunday School children learned “pieces” to recite during the Easter church service. We sang Easter songs and the church was filled with families and we all enjoyed the Easter Sunrise breakfast. The kids also enjoyed Easter eggs and candy!!
The Seneca Hymn Singers are taking a break from rehearsals. However, if their service is needed, please contact Beeda Parker or Terry Thompson. Watch the newsletter announcing when they will resume their Tuesday night gatherings.
Continue to pray for healing in our communities. Pray for those battling addictions. Pray for those who are mourning. Pray for those who are struggling with illness. But also, give thanks for all the blessings that we have in our lives. On Sunday mornings you are invited to join us for Worship service at 9 a.m. We look forward to seeing you and your family. Peace.
