From The Desk Of The Treasurer

Greetings,

I hope those of you who attended the Seneca Elder Summer Jamboree at the Seneca Allegany Casino on the 18th had a nice time and enjoyed everything they had to offer. This was the first time since December of 2019, that we have gathered together. It was good to see so many of our local elders and those that traveled from Erie, PA and Buffalo, as well. The music, entertainment, food and company were all great.

We are now heading into the end of summer and into “back to school” mode for all those families with school-age children. The Allegany H.E.R.O. Committee is hosting their yearly “Back-To-School Bash” today, August 26th, from 3pm-6pm, at the Allegany Community Center. The Cattaraugus Community Center will be hosting their Back to School event on Tuesday, September 20th, from 5:30pm-7:30pm, in collaboration with the Cattaraugus Education Department. At the August 13th, regularly scheduled council meeting, a resolution was passed which authorized a payment to all enrolled Senecas to be issued August 31, 2022 – intended to assist our members with back to school expenses.

In some local lacrosse news, I’m proud to say we recently had seven of our Seneca warrior athletes travel to Limerick, Ireland to participate in the Men’s U21 World Championship Lacrosse games. Congratulations go out to: Efrain Barreto, Jr., Julian Freeman, Daylin John-Hill, Clay Scanlan, Dylan Snow, Xavier Taylor and Amos Whitcomb, for their hard work and determination to represent us as the Haudenosaunee Nationals! The International Olympic Committee granted full recognition to World Lacrosse, in 2021 and the Haudenosaunee Nationals intend to participate under our own flag as a world-recognized nation state at the 2028 Olympic games in Los Angeles, California. In recognition of their dedication to the Creator’s Game, the Seneca Nation has made a sizable donation in their quest for Olympic gold at the 2028 Olympics. In Ireland, on Saturday, August 20th, the Haudenosaunee Nationals defeated Australia with a 10-6 win and bronze medalist winners. Way to represent! I will be looking forward to seeing our Haudenosaunee flag flying at the Olympic stadium in Los Angeles, California in 2028!

Respectfully,
Rickey L. Armstrong, Sr.
