News From The Four Corners United Methodist Church

Rte. 438 and Versailles Plank Road, Cattaraugus Territory | Submitted by Marilyn Anderson

On November 26th Four Corners hosted “ADVENT”ure Saturday. Those attending enjoyed hearing the message of Advent and learning about the symbols of Christmas. The sanctuary was decorated and then Jody Shaw from the Versailles UMC guided us in painting Christmas ornaments. After we finished our project, we enjoyed sharing a delicious meal. The event was co-sponsored by the Four Corners and Versailles churches. It was a great way to start celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.

On December 18th we celebrated the birth of Christ with our annual Candlelight service. It is always a moving experience to hear the scripture and music of the Christmas season and to see the sanctuary lit by candlelight. Following the service, we enjoyed a Christmas potluck dinner.

The hustle and bustle of the Christmas holiday will soon be behind us and now we look forward to 2023. Years ago we celebrated New Year’s Eve with a Watch Service at the Four Corners church which was followed by a late night dinner of oyster stew. The laughter of our members could be heard as we celebrated the New Year. We remember church members who have passed on: Delphina and Walter MtPleasant, Eleanor and Harry Lavis, Vic and Winnie Twoguns, Lena and Merwin Pierce, Frances and Carlton Jemison, Girlie John, Windsor and Alda Pierce, Lois Jimerson, Ruth and Monroe Abrams – and many more. Those memories warm our hearts. Their lives which they dedicated to God have served as an inspiration to all of us.

Let’s keep the spirit of Holiday giving alive throughout 2023! We can give of our time to help our neighbors; we can give of our time to volunteer for community activities; we can give our family a happy home; and we can give each other our love and respect. As always, please pray for those in our communities who are battling illness, addiction, loneliness and abuse.

The Seneca Hymn Singers are going to take a winter break and will resume gatherings in the spring. If you wish to have the services of the Singers, please feel free to contact Janet “Beeda” Parker, 716-725-8112.

We invite you to join us for Sunday morning services at 9 a.m. followed by refreshments in the Fellowship Hall. Each week we hear inspiring words and enjoy music and fellowship. Peace.
