Salamanca Warrior Athletics: Indoor Track & Field

December 17, 2022 | Submitted by Councillor Arlene Bova

The Salamanca girls had a strong showing in week three of the indoor track and field competition season tallying 5 personal bests and 2 new school records.

Senior Harley Brown led the way for the ladies. She ran a PR in the 600 meter run in 1:49.61 placing 5th out of 37 athletes and this also broke her own school record. Harley is a coach’s dream. She is self motivated, driven and truly leads by example. Her focus and discipline during the week paid off today. Harley anchored the 4x200m relay along with Michaelynn Lecceardone (daughter of Georgie Lecceardone and Mickey Lecceardone), Alina Cook and Summer Downey breaking our school record by 5 seconds.

It was a day of bests at the shot put area as Aubrey Domres (Daughter of Jessi Garlow and Arty Domres) threw her best at 25-10.25 placing 5th out of 38 overall. Alina Cook also had a career best with 24-01.85 placing 10th. Izabella Milks (daughter of Lee Milks and Christine Dornan) had two top ten finishes. She triple jumped her best at 29-02 placing 8th overall and had a 5th place finish in the high jump. Teammate Michaelynn Lecceardone finished close behind in 7th in her debut at high jump during the indoor season.

Boys Results:

The Salamanca Boys indoor track & field team had another great day of performances in week three of competition. They recorded 10 personal bests and 3 new school records. 7th grader Aiden George (son of Allie and Lisa George) was the first Salamanca boy to take to the track for the 1600 meter run in the indoor season which earned him a school record. Aiden is willing to try the longer events and his determination and discipline at practice will lead to many PRs in the future. George was a member of the very young 3200m relay team along with 8th graders Taylor Hayes, Easton Chudy and freshman Jackson Oram. They knocked off 15 seconds of their school record. These young men are the future of Salamanca mid distance and aren’t afraid of the longer events and taking on older athletes. We are excited about the future of all four young men.

Carson Mohr threw a huge four feet further in the weighted throw smashing his own school record, 34-04. Cameron McGraw also had a PR but in shot put by 18 inches. Arlen Newark had two top ten finishes with a 4th place in the 55 meter hurdles and an 8th in long jump.

Other PRs were recorded by Payton Bigler in the 1,000, Jesse Hill in the 600, Oram and Jordan Green in the 55m hurdles, Dakota Colts, Green and Jazarian McDonald in the 300. Despite being one of the smallest schools and not being combined with any other school, the Warriors continue to show their strength in the 4x400m relay. Archer Newark, Jason McGraw, Jesse Hill and Arlen Newark finished in first with a commanding 11 second lead, 3:41.79.
