Indigenous Attractions

By Alyssa Coustenis, Newsletter Reporter

Located at the Fashion Outlets in Niagara Falls, Indigenous Attractions is supporting native artists and educating community members in while doing so, combatting intergenerational trauma. Evelyn and Dave George-Shongo envisioned a space that brings a better community by helping to bridge the gap of cultural and indigenous information in the area while promoting a space where guests can come together and heal. Through those sharing their own stories, experiences, and culture we can take that and learn to create a new understanding.

Great for those looking for personal items or gifts the store has a wide variety of products from handmade clothing and jewelry to herbs, books, music, paintings along with more. Artists can showcase and sell their work. And every product at Indigenous Attractions is native owned. The retail store also transforms into an event space. Community events can be held here like socials and sessions to educate guests on how to heal from historical trauma

Indigenous Attractions is also home to a museum exhibit. There’s a lot of work, thought and research that goes behind each area in the exhibit portion. It includes information and items from the residential and boarding school era, MMIW, Every Child Matters Movement. There’s even comics like Super Indian and Tribal Force, not only highlight native influences from all aspects but to take advantage of contemporary things that we can use to heal.

The Mission of Indigenous Attractions is:
Our mission is to cultivate a lifelong love of learning through hands-on, minds-on experiences that celebrate curiosity, connect families and promote a sense of unity within our community.
