Seneca Energy and Telecommunications would like to provide an update on our projects taking place on the Allegany and Cattaraugus Territories.
We are approaching 30MM kWh’s produced by our two community-scale renewable projects! To date, the wind turbine has produced almost 20MM kWh’s and the solar array has produced about 10MM kWh’s. This electric production has generated over $3MM of revenue and allowed the Seneca Nation to reduce our electric bills, fund various Nation energy projects and contribute almost $800,000 back to Seneca Nation residents through the Renewable Energy Credit Program!
Broadband high-speed internet has been a huge success on the Cattaraugus Territory. In 2023, the 52-mile Cattaraugus fiber network was constructed and went operational. Seneca Telecomm has connected almost 600 residents and businesses to our network so far! This project closed the digital divide between the Seneca Nation and the off-territory communities in the area. Residents and businesses can now connect to high-speed internet to communicate, learn, shop and utilize streaming services. This technology will continue to open doors for future opportunities within the community.
Allegany will have a new internet provider (Armstrong Communications) connecting services in the near future and this will create competition with Breezline. Armstrong has completed its construction of 72-miles of mainline fiber on the Allegany Territory. This will offer Allegany residents higher speed internet at reduced prices.
Recently, Seneca Energy closed our initial sign-up period for the Residential Solar and Generator Programs. We have 50+ residents signed up for the Solar Program and 200 residents signed up for the Generator Program. This program will be providing residents with reduced electric bills and grid resiliency during power outages.
Seneca Telecommunications will continue to advance these important project initiatives as we strive to ensure the security, prosperity and independence of the Seneca Nation.
