SALAMANCA – For the first time since the Olean Times Herald introduced the honors in 2006, Salamanca High School has a Big 30 Baseball All-Star.

Junior Jaxson Ross (Seneca, Allegany Territory, son of Melanie & Darren Ross) is the Warriors’ first Big 30 Baseball All-Star, making the 2023 list of the top 15 players in the OTH‘s coverage region across New York and Pennsylvania.

Ross played first base and pitcher for Salamanca in its most successful season in decades. The Warriors (16-5 overall) tied with Portville at 12-2 in CCAA Division III league play for Salamanca’s first league title since 1974 and made their first sectional semifinal appearance since 1987.

At the plate, Ross hit .567 with a .659 on-base percentage. He stole 28 bases, hit five triples and one home run and drove in 32 runs and scored 32 runs.

On the mound, Ross struck out 92 batters in 46 innings and held a 2.59 ERA this season.

Ross was also named a nominee for Big 30 Player of the Year, an award that ultimately went to Portville senior Michael Cole.
