Rocky Mountain National Park
November 2022

My name is Jeremiah RisingBuffalo Maybee. I come from the Northern Arapaho and Seneca Nation. I am a member of the turtle clan within my Seneca tribe. I recently transferred to Rocky Mountain National Park and I am the District Supervisory Park Ranger for the east side of RMNP, in the Division of Interpretation and Education. I oversee and manage visitor programs and facilities, like the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center and the Fall River Visitor Center.
My ancestors have deep connections to what is now Rocky Mountain National Park. It is an honor to be at this park in a leadership role while knowing that my ancestors walked through this area for centuries.
I believe that I carry my ancestors with me on this journey and I am deeply appreciative to know that I carry them during my time here at Rocky Mountain National Park.
I have served at multiple parks, including Indigenous sites such as Chaco National Historical Park, Mesa Verde National Park and El Morro National Monument. It was always an honor to interpret and protect the cultural sites of other indigenous people and it is now wonderful to be at a place that my tribe is connected to.
I beaded the moccasins I am wearing. The purple honors my beautiful mother and some of the triangular shapes honor the ancestors and the lodges they lived in. As I wear them within the park, I feel a strong connection to the past along with an optimistic future.
