Greetings,
The warm weather has escaped for another year. Gone too are the mosquitoes. I hope everyone had the opportunity to experience the beautiful fall colors. Schools are nearly complete with their first marking period and hopefully everyone is doing well. The Salamanca High School Warrior’s varsity football team beat Southwestern for the Section VI, Class C South championship and home field advantage for the playoffs. The Warrior’s first playoff win came against Cleveland Hill. The Warrior’s faced a tough Portville/Cuba-Rushford under the Friday night lights at Veteran’s Park in Salamanca on November 3rd and prevailed, they’re headed to Highmark Stadium (The “Ralph”) November 10th at 1pm. Ja:göh!
November is Native American & Indigenous Peoples Heritage Month
November 15th is National Rock Your Mocs day. Rock Your Mocs was started in 2011 as a way for Indigenous People to unify worldwide. It is an opportunity to celebrate tribal individuality and to honor our ancestors. Check out Seneca Media & Communications Center’s Facebook page for details about an opportunity to Rock Your Mocs and a chance to win an overnight stay and $100 dining dollars from Seneca Resorts and Casinos. #ROCKYOURMOCS
Judicial Ballot Canvassing
The Judicial ballot canvassing will take place at the Seneca Allegany Administration Building (SAAB) Council Chambers on November 14, 2023, starting at 11:00am. After the swearing-in ceremony a luncheon will follow in the SAAB Grand Hall. Please come out and congratulate our newly elected judicial candidates who make a difference.
October Employee of the Month
Seneca Nation Executives and Councillors honored two employees for the month of October. The special recognition ceremony was held simultaneously in the Council Chambers on both territories. Recognized for their hard work and dedication were Jeanette Shinners, Procurement Coordinator, Fiscal – Allegany and Briana Snyder, Options Counselor, Cattaraugus AOA. Jeanette and Briana will both receive a paid day off, a designated parking spot, and a gift card of their choice.
Hunting Season
Hunting season is upon us, and it is time to fill our freezers. As custom of our ancestors, don’t shoot what you aren’t going to use. It is shameful to see deer carcasses with only portions taken and the rest discarded. Keep our territories clean, do not dump waste.
We experienced our first snowfall of the year and that means that the holiday season is approaching. Keep an eye out for these upcoming events: Seneca Nation’s 175th birthday, H.E.R.O.’s Thanksgiving event, Elders Christmas party, and H.E.R.O.’s New Years Eve community event.
Keep warm, enjoy a cup of cocoa, and make plans to spend some time with family and loved ones this holiday season.
Respectfully,
Rickey L. Armstrong, Sr.,
President
