Red House Bridge Project:

Tribal Historic Preservation Update

Approximately from November 13, 2023 and going into Spring 2024, there will be three archaeological teams working on three archaeological sites along the work route.

The areas will be damaged by the ongoing roadwork, so it was determined to learn as much as we can about these areas before they are damaged. The areas of interest extend back into time from 6,500 to about 2,700 years ago.

In the initial studies the archaeological teams located a number of living and processing areas. Based on the known information, Seneca Nation believes this is a good opportunity to learn how the communities lived along the river during this time frame. These areas will be demarcated by orange fencing.

Seneca Nation has coordinated with a number of internal departments to ensure that areas are monitored and to ensure nothing sensitive will be uncovered during the excavations. We encourage the public to visit the ongoing work and to learn what the archaeologists are uncovering in these areas.
