with Angela Ferguson at the Onöhsagwë:de’ Cultural Center (OCC)
Last month, Angela Ferguson (Onondaga, Eel Clan) visited the Onöhsagwë:de’ Cultural Center (OCC) to facilitate the day of traditional cooking using clay pots. Some of the pots were created by apprentices of renowned artist, Peter B. Jones. These apprentices included Cami Jones, Brennan Johns, and Richard Kettle. The staff of the OCC also took part in the knowledge sharing of the day.
Despite heavy snow conditions outside, the gathering took place at the OCC within the Living Longhouse. The Living Longhouse is an outdoor longhouse replica used to educate the public, and it also serves as a space for living traditions to continue. The OCC calls this space the Living Longhouse because the programs, interpretations, and contents aren’t restricted to a time period – it is used to show the changing and dynamic culture, history and present lifeways of the Seneca.
The OCC is owned and operated by the Seneca Nation of Indians.
