SALAMANCA — The third win of the season came on an emotional night for the Salamanca girls basketball team.

The Warriors (3-0) defeated Pine Valley 47-25 in a non-league tip-off Thursday night.

Karina Crouse, Makenzie Crouse and Bella Wolfe recently suffered the loss of their grandmother. After a tough week, Warriors coach Joe Hinman said “these girls truly played with their heart.”

Slowly but surely the Warriors created more separation between them and their opponents, all of which was jump started by an early blitz that put Salamanca up 14-6 after the first quarter.

Karina put up 15 points in the Warriors first non-tournament win this season. Of those points, nine were cashed in from beyond the arc as she continues to shoot well from deep early in the season.

Wolfe was a big factor on the night as she recorded a game-high of 16 points, four of which came from the free throw line where she was 4-for-9 on the night.

Lezly McComber, continued her great start to the season as well and was the only other Warrior to reach double figures in the game with her 10 points all from the field.

“It definitely was not easy during a tough week for the girls,” Hinman said. “Pine Valley matched well with size against us and gave us a hard time down low, but the girls were able to pull off a gritty win.”
