About RTPI:
Home to the largest collection of Roger Tory Peterson’s work, the Roger Tory Peterson Institute is a leader for the study, exhibition and nurturing of art that matters to the planet. Through world class exhibitions and programs, RTPI illuminates the beauty of nature; challenges us to confront environmental issues of regional, national and global concern; and inspires us to preserve the earth’s biodiversity – with a particular emphasis on the natural area wonders of Western New York.

About SINM:
The Seneca-Iroquois National Museum proudly houses an extensive collection of Hodinöhsö:ni’ historical and traditionally designed decorative and every-day-use items and archaeological artifacts. SINM, along with the Seneca Nation Archives Department, are the safe keepers of historical documents, including articles, special publications, historical and family photographs and various multi-media productions regarding the Onöndowa’ga:’ and Hodinöhsö:ni’.

About the residency:
The artist-in-residence program is a week-long residency during which the resident artist is provided access to the Peterson Collection, the world’s largest collection of Roger Tory Peterson’s original artwork, films, photographs, and papers. Approximately one year after the completion of the residency, RTPI will host a one-person exhibition of the artist’s work created in response to the residency. During the run of the exhibition, RTPI, in coordination with the artist and SINM, will present public programs related to the exhibition and residency, including a virtual talk by the artist.

The artist will receive an honorarium of $2,500 during the one-week residency, as well as housing, transportation reimbursement, and per diem. Following the residency, the artist will receive an additional honorarium of $3,000 for the creation of six new artworks in response to their research.
