Print Center New York is pleased to organize a day-long gathering in early May 2024, held on the occasion of the exhibition Storywork: The Prints of Marie Watt, from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation, on view in the Jordan Schnitzer Gallery January 25–May 18, 2024.

We invite proposals for sessions as part of this event, which aims to use Watt’s interdisciplinary work as a jumping off point to rethink our relationships to artmaking, institutions, and each other. Watt (b. 1967, works in Portland, OR) is a member of the Seneca Nation (one of six that comprise the Haudenosaunee Confederacy) with German-Scot ancestry. Her work draws from history, biography, Haudenosaunee protofeminism, and Indigenous teachings; in it, she explores the intersection of history, community, and storytelling.

We welcome proposals for conversations, readings, performances, workshops, etc., that may speak to themes and issues such as: materiality, craft, and embodied knowledge; community practice, collaboration, and collective futures; Indigenous teaching and survivance; and beyond.

Submitters and prospective participants must reside in the local northeast area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania). Selected participants will receive a W.A.G.E. aligned honorarium (to be determined based on the type of session) and a modest travel stipend.

Proposals must include:
• A program title
• An abstract of 250 words describing the session/program
• A list of participants, and whether they are prospective or confirmed
• A statement of 250 words stating the session’s relevance to Watt’s work
• The submitter’s CV

Please send your proposal as a single PDF with the subject line “Storywork Session Proposal” to Robin Siddall, Exhibitions and Programs Coordinator at programs@printcenternewyork.org, by February 16, 2024.
