Claudia Jimerson Honored for Lacrosse Career Legacy

At February’ Regular Session of Council

Several community members were honored at the regular session of Council this past Saturday, February 10th for their extraordinary contributions in athletics. One of the three honorees was Claudia Jimerson, Cayuga/Seneca, Bear clan of the Cattaraugus Territory. Claudia has enjoyed a highly successful career as a player and coach in the Creator’s game of lacrosse.

“For us, lacrosse is more than a game, it is part of our heritage and way of life, gifted to our ancestors by the Creator. From a young age, our players are taught that each time they step onto that field, they are not playing for themselves, they are playing for the Creator.”

Few have taken that message to heart and played the game with as much heart and skill as Claudia. Raised on the Cattaraugus Territory, Claudia’s roots with lacrosse go back to the mid-1980s when she was part of the first Seneca Girls’ Lacrosse team. That was the beginning of her distinguished lacrosse career.

Claudia also played for Lake Shore High School and was named a High School All-American. From there, she took her talents and passion to Fredonia State University, where she was recognized as a Division III All-American Honorable Mention lacrosse player in 1998.

Claudia has proudly represented the Haudenosaunee in National and International tournaments as a member of the Haudenosaunee Nationals Women’s team, playing in the 2013, World Championships. Showing her natural leadership ability alongside her lacrosse talent, Claudia had the distinction of serving as team captain for the 2013 team.

Claudia has also coached for the Seneca Girls Lacrosse program for many years. Today, she serves as Director of Women’s Lacrosse Operations for the Haudenosaunee Nationals, where she is helping to lead the effort to allow our players to participate and play the Creator’s game under our own Haudenosaunee flag in the 2028 Summer Olympics.” Congratulatory remarks by Councillor Tina Abrams who was representing President Armstrong.
