At February’ Regular Session of Council
Several community members were honored at the regular session of Council this past Saturday, February 10th for their extraordinary contributions in athletics. One of the three honorees was Charles Thomas Scanlan, also known as Tommy, Onöndowa’ga:’, Otá:yö:nih clan of the Cattaraugus Territory. He is the son of Charlie & Jodi Scanlan.
“Tommy started playing lacrosse at the age of 3 with the Newtown Minor Lacrosse organization.
He followed that passion and continued to develop his game, playing for the Road Warriors travel field team, the National Minor midget team, with whom he won a silver medal, the Seneca Warchiefs Junior B team, and Junior A ball.
From there, Tommy moved to the ranks of Senior ball, playing Senior B for a few years before achieving a childhood dream and playing as a member of the Six Nations Chiefs Senior A team.
This past season, his second year on the team, Tommy enjoyed his greatest lacrosse accomplishment so far, as the Six Nations Chiefs won the Mann Cup National championship in September. It was the seventh Mann Cup title for the Chiefs.
Tommy enjoyed a great season, scoring 7 goals and 11 assists, and he was the only Seneca Nation member on the Chiefs roster.”
“Ja:göh Tommy. We are honored to recognize you and to celebrate your accomplishments in front of our community today. We wish you continued success.”
