Over eight weeks, participants will have a better understanding of:
- Indigenous storytelling,
- An Indigenous approach to playwriting,
- Character development through dialogue, actions, and objectives,
- Communicating creative ideas; and
- Collaborating with peers and theatre artists.
At the end of the course, each participant will have written a short play that will be directed and performed by Native theatre professionals. These plays will be presented as staged readings in front of a live audience while being live-streamed on June 8–9, 2024, at 1:30 pm (Pacific Time) at the Autry Museum in Los Angeles, CA, and on June 15–16 at La Jolla Playhouse in La Jolla, CA.
The online classes will be two-hour sessions on Saturdays beginning April 13, 2024, and concluding on June 1, 2024. We respectfully ask that each participant commit to all eight sessions.
Native Voices believes our stories matter and deserve a stage. We believe in intergenerational learning and that our youth have much to teach us. We hope you will join us by becoming Keepers of the Flame (or another name).
