On Sunday, March 24th, both boys and girls seniors finished their high school basketball careers by participating in the Big 30 Senior Basketball Classic held at Portville High School. This game showcases the best 24 seniors from 30 New York and Pennsylvania schools. Congratulations to our talented athletes for earning their spots in this prestigious event!
Out of all the teams that were represented in the New York squads that squared off against their inter-state competitors in the ninth year of the Classic’s existence, none were more represented as Salamanca who had four players between both the boys and girls teams.
On the boys side, star guards Lucus Brown and Jaxson Ross represented the Warriors in the Classic. Brown and Ross led Salamanca to its second appearance in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Semifinal in three years after previously having never reached that stage ever before in school history. Brown scored 653 points this season with an average of 25.1 points scored per game. Ross was one of six Warriors to finish with over 100 points on the season with the majority of his offensive damage having been done beyond the 3-point arc.
As for the Big 30 Senior Classic New York girls team, representing Salamanca was Karina Crouse and Lezly McComber, both players who averaged double-figures in points per game this past season. The duo led the Warriors to a Section 6 Class B2 Semifinal.
Congratulations to everyone. The PA boys and girls teams took home their respective games.
