March 30, 2024 | Repost from WISPC FB
Seneca Nation Councillor Presley Redeye, along with Project Facilitator Natalie Stahlman, and WISPC Executive committee member Peter Wilson traveled to Washington D.C. last month to participate in the 2024 USET/USET SPF Impact Week. They are pictured here with Justin Mohamed, Ambassador for First Nations People, Department of Foreign Affair and Tribes of Australia.
Ambassador Mohamed is the first to hold this specialty position, which was established with the goal of raising the voices of Indigenous people in Australia’s global policies.
The delegation discussed the World Indigenous Suicide Prevention Conference that Seneca Nation is hosting July 22-25, 2024, at Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino. The Seneca Nation hopes that the conference will be an opportunity for our sister Nations to gather from across the world to share cultural-based approaches focused on: Protective factors through building identity, resilience and culture; Ways of preventing suicide reducing risks; and showcasing wise practices on the spectrum forum of prevention and intervention encompassed by culture and Indigenous knowledge.
Australia hosted the world conference in 2018 and will host again in 2025. Mohamed discussed the history of Indigenous people, social justice, and paved the way for an active partnership to uplift Indigenous communities throughout Indian country and throughout the world.
Registration remains open, keynote speakers will be announced very soon, and event volunteers are still needed. Logon to www.thewispc.com.
