Honöta:önih Hënödeyësdahgwa’, in collaboration with Seneca Nation Language departments of Cattaraugus and Allegany, RIT Native American Future Stewards Program, Ganondagan State Historic Site, and Friends of Ganondagan, would like to host our second annual language conference. This event will take place Monday and Tuesday June 10th and 11th at Ganondagan State Historic Site.
This conference is open to all Hodinöhšö:ni:h language communities, and this year’s call for presenters includes all Hodinöhšö:ni:h language teachers, content creators, and language advocates. This will be a two-day conference. Day 1 will focus on child and young adult language education which includes language nests, charter schools, pre-k, and K – 12 education. Day 2 will focus on adult language instruction which can include dedicated full time language programs, adult community classes, online classes, as well as University courses.
Based on feedback from last year, we would like presentations to be more interactive, to engage the crowd. Break-out rooms will be provided this year (with audio and video setups) as presenters are highly encouraged to give demonstrations of what you do in your classrooms. Demonstrations can include videos of your classroom activities, group work with attendees, or a variety of other ideas (templates for work sheets, how you lesson plan, how to create a safe learning space, how to promote language inside and outside the classroom). Each presenter will have at least two break-out sessions. Attendees should gain new ideas to use in their communities, or add to their repertoire of teaching techniques.
If you are interested in being a presenter, please send an abstract to Damian Webster at onondowaga22@gmail.com, detailing your topic, what type of methods and demonstrations you will be sharing, as well as how participants can utilize the tools you will show them. Please indicate if you would like to have a thirty or sixty minute time slot. Sixty minute presentations should be approximately fifty minutes in length and allow about ten minutes for Q&A. Half hour presentations should be approximately 20 minutes long and allow for ten minutes of Q&A. We look forward to seeing everyone in attendance. Ja:göh!
