Michaelynn Lecceardone has committed to D’Youville College to pursue psychology and a degree in social work focusing on substance abuse. She will be competing in track and field at D’Youville’s Division 2 program. Finishing up her career at Salamanca, Michaelynn Lecceardone has been the nucleus of our track and field program for the last 4 years. Her development into a powerhouse multi-event athlete as the team’s top hurdler, pentathlete and triple and long jumper has come as a result of a lot of hard work. Michaelynn has spent countless hours studying video technique and training independently which has elevated her success and consistency. She has qualified for the Section 6 Championships in both the indoor and outdoor seasons and holds the school records indoor for long, triple, and the 55 hurdles. Michaelynn is the master at setting her mind to something and making it happen. She has always had a keen ability to rise to the level of competition and I have witnessed her literally WILLING herself into accomplishing great things sometimes under great adversity. Those are the kind of skills that she will take with her and be able to apply in real life. We are so proud of Michaelynn and the outstanding leadership in addition to her passion for our sport and her teammates. Her efforts in peer coaching sharing her knowledge and encouraging her teammates have been so impactful to our team culture and success. She finds tremendous accomplishment in her efforts to help others.
Brendan McMaster, who is the head coach at D’Youville is excited to have Michaelynn as an incoming freshman. He has already recognized her leadership and love for track and field and commented, “Michaelynn will be an immediate asset to the team and will help us grow our culture for the next 4 years.” He also stated he sees Michaelynn being a big contributor and top contender at the conference level and has the ability to bring D’Youville team success as a big point getter.
Michaelynn is a giver and there will be big shoes to fill upon her graduating, but we are all excited for her accomplishments and will be following her progress at the next level as she will continue to represent Salamanca track and field.
