Nya:wëh sgënö’ gagwe: göh,

I’m thankful you are well and I’d like to wish a very Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms, aunties, grandmas, and women who serve in that role. Your guidance, love and nurturing bring much to contribution to our communities. In the words of James E. Faust, “the influence of a mother in the lives of her children is beyond calculation.”

There are a few things happening around the Nation within the next few months. Seneca Gaming is looking to introduce new games to the gaming floor starting with a video roulette. This will be an exciting addition. Stop down to Seneca Gaming in Irving and Salamanca to play the new games.

The Planning Department will submit a grant proposal to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development Preservation and Reinvestment Initiative for Community Enhancement (PRICE) competition at this month’s Council session. This grant will cover replacement homes for those need substantial repair or replacement.

The Nation was recently awarded a grant from the Department of Commerce Economic Development Administrations for funding toward improvements at High Banks Campground. High Banks will contract for the construction of a new shower house at Old Towne and a new gazebo at the lodge site. These added amenities will improve the overall attraction of the campground.

Lastly, the Seneca Nation Settlement Act of 1990 which provides that the Nation may acquire land within its aboriginal territory within the State of New York, or within or near proximity to former Seneca Territory will be enacted to acquire approximately 420 acres of land within Cattaraugus County near the Allegany Territory. The Council will discuss this transaction at the May Council session. More information will be released once it is passed.

Continue to stay safe and stay strong.
