SALAMANCA — The Salamanca Kiwanis Club joined forces with the Seneca Nation Marshals and Allegany Community Center to hold their annual Bike Rodeo and Health Fair on June 2 at Salamanca High School.
The rodeo included a bike safety course, face painting, bike inspections, free bike helmets from the Marshals, bike safety and an appearance by BMX racer Rayla Reed, a fifth-grade student at Salamanca. The health fair welcomed the Salamanca Youth Bureau and Project Head Start to set up and attendees learned all about water safety. Registration in both the rodeo and health fair allowed local youth a chance to win one of five new bikes donated or one of four sets of camping gear, all donated by the Kiwanis Club. Every child received a new toy and enjoyed hotdogs, fruit and water.
Winners of the camping equipment were Alita Kennedy, 10; Strecker Brown, 10; Jasmine Miller, 6; and Christian Reiller, 7.
Winners of the bicycles were Jasmine Miller, 6; Nathan Newark, 9; Malachi Meeks, 10; Niomi Chapman, 10; and the bonus bike went to Astell Dowdy, 7.
