The Seneca Nation Vocational Rehabilitation Program would like to recognize October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month. We commemorate the many contributions people with disabilities play in the world of work. In 1945 Congress enacted Public Law 176, declaring the first week of October each year as National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week. In 1962, the word “Physically” was removed to acknowledge that individuals with all types of disabilities should be included. Some 25 years later, the week was expanded to a month by Congress and changed the name to National Disability Employment Awareness Month. We’d especially like to thank those Seneca Nation departments who have given our Vocational Rehabilitation participants a chance in their employment goals.
